  1. February 6: “BECOMING AN EFFECTIVE MANAGER IN THE CLASSROOM”
    The teacher as manager within the classroom. Discussion and strategies which help us guide and coach our learners to collaborate, communicate in English and develop study skills.
  2. February 13: “LESSON PLANNING FOR LEARNERS OF TODAY AND TOMORROW”
    With or without the use of technology tools and blended learning, efficient lesson planning makes teaching much more effective and stimulating to both teacher and student.
  3. February 20: “VOCABULARY BUILDING”
    How learners learn, different approaches to learning vocabulary, the steps of eliciting vocabulary. Methods of getting the meaning across, the stages of a vocabulary lesson and Hands-on activities.
  4. February 27: “TASK BASED LEARNING (TBL) AND THE PLACE OF GRAMMAR PRACTICE”
    Demonstrations and workshops on ways of engaging learners in using appropriate expressions of everyday English and the impact of TBL on grammar teaching.
  5. March 13: “READING AND OUR LEARNERS”
    The stages and aims in a reading lesson, Reading sub-skills. Pre, while, and post Reading activities. The difference between the traditional and communicative Reading approaches. Discussion on the Steps that should be taken when reading, Problems students find when reading. A sample of a Reading lesson.
  6. March 20: “THE FOUR-STAGES WORKSHOP”
    A step-by-step demonstration, lesson planning, evaluation and feedback workshop. (Active participation by all attending.)
  7. March 27: “DEVELOPING SPEAKING SKILLS”
    What makes a successful speaking activity. Types of speaking activities; fluency-based, accuracy-based, communicative -based. Scaffolding technique, stages and aims in a speaking lesson. Hands-on activities. correction techniques and feedback and the difference between Content focused and language focus feedback.
  8. April 3: “DEVELOPING LISTENING SKILLS”
    How to teach a Listening lesson; Listening sub skills, how can we improve our learners listening skills. The most important guidelines for listening, factors that help our learners listen. The stages and aims in a Listening Lesson. Pre, while and post activities.
  9. April 10: “TEACHING WRITING, Part I: from the Sentence to the Paragraph”
    Writing is the ‘neglected’ Skill by most people both in MT and in FL. Our main focus in Part I will be on A2+ learners, adolescents through adults. We will discuss the Management of Writing and correction techniques. Demonstration of practical activities and suggestions to develop learners’ writing skills from the sentence level to the paragraph.
  10. April 17 : “MAKING YOUR LESSONS MEMORABLE: ADAPTING THE COURSEBOOK”
    Guidelines for evaluating coursebooks and assessing students’ needs, adapting coursebook material and creating supplementary exercises with digital aids and technology tools.
